What Is Rendering?

Rendering is a practice which is very popular around the world, particularly in Southern Europe but also throughout the UK, and even the affluent East Midlands area of Southwell, where we have applied rendering to many homes. Rendering is a process which helps to protect a homes walls from weather damage and other potential erosion. It involves the application of a mixture of cement, lime plaster and sand to brick, cement, stone or mud walls of a house, which can then be painted to give it a nice look.

Why Render Your Walls?

Primarily, external wall rendering is done to provide protection from the weather and other potential erosion. It does not stop there however, external wall rendering does have its other benefits, for example, it can also provides an extra layer on the walls, contributing to the homes insulation, and also gives your home a fantastic new look, with different application styles and paint colours letting your transform your homes style.

Internal Walls -

Internal wall rendering may not provide weather protection as external does, however it does still have its benefits – predominantly aesthetically, as it can smooth down interior walls, and provide a great smooth wall canvas for you to paint and design to your hearts desire.

The Process

The process of rendering begins when our expert team arrive at your Southwell home. They will first ensure that the wall is clean and free of plant growth – giving it a thorough clean and treating ir properly if there are any concerns. Then, a harling coat of aggregate and lime will be applied and left for a couple of days so that it can cure and increase the bonding for future coats. When the initial coat is returned to and ready’, the first coat of the actual render mixture is troweled on in the same way you would apply plaster , in even coats of around 8-10mm. Our skilled team of renderers know exactly the best way to go about the job, and after a few more days, and a few more coats of render, your walls are fully protected, and your home ready for a lovely lick of paint!
