Time to ACT now - there is no Plan B
PLAN A - INSULATE NOW WARNS NOTTS FIRM
Company Urges Action As Gordon Says “There’s No Plan B…”
As Prime Minister Gordon Brown warns that the UK faces a “catastrophe” if world leaders fail to agree a deal on climate change, a Nottinghamshire firm has stepped forward with a simple idea that will make a massive difference - and as well as safeguarding the environment, householders will see the benefit when they shave hundreds of pounds off their increasingly hefty annual fuel bills.
This week, Gordon Brown said negotiators had “50 days to save the world from global warming” and break the "impasse". He told the Major Economies Forum in London, which brings together 17 of the world's biggest greenhouse gas-emitting countries, there was "no plan B".
World delegations meet in Copenhagen in December for talks on a new treaty, and while the Prime Minister addresses leaders, in Nottinghamshire a local company is calling on householders to play their part.
Westville Limited, based in a coal field regeneration area in Shirebrook, is spearheading a regional campaign to get homes insulated against the winter cold – keeping heat in, reducing fuel consumption and slashing fuel bills. While reports show that householders are cutting back on essential repairs and maintenance in a misguided attempt to save money, dismayed bosses at Westville say now is the time to press ahead with home insulation before the winter weather sets in.
Sean Stevenson, the general manager of Westville, said: “Everything we have heard on the news is true – now is the time to act if we are to make a difference, to our own homes and pockets as well as to the environment.
“It is easy to be complacent, but fuel bills are rising and energy consumption is soaring. Insulating your home is the simplest and most effective way to make a huge personal impact.”
More than 40% of a home’s energy will escape through uninsulated lofts and walls. The company’s insulation expertise covers cavity wall and solid wall insulation as well and solving insulation problems for more unusual buildings. The firm has contracts with a number of local authorities to improve housing stock across the county.
Sean added: “Insulating your home now will not only improve its energy efficiency, but will make a warmer winter and a healthier wallet too. Home insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills – typically cutting around £365 per year by simply insulating your loft and cavity walls.
“For those with solid walls the savings are even greater. Ensuring that homes are adequately insulated not only saves money but also provides greater comfort in the winter. Generally, the cost of installing cavity wall and loft insulation pays for itself within just two years. Insulating your home is a straight forward and simple process providing dramatic results.”
Tax Support for Landlords
Landlords can claim back up to £1500 per property in tax breaks, if you carry out Insulation activity on your properties. The Landlord's Energy Saving Allowance has been in place for some time but awareness is not great and it is not widely understood. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndComm...[continued]
