Notts firm shares expertise with Westminster

Westville Comes Of Age As Summoned To Tackle Climate Change. A Nottinghamshire firm was summoned to Westminster to advise on climate change – a remarkable coming of age for a company launched 21 years with two men and a van.

Westville, from Shirebrook, is spearheading a regional campaign in the East Midlands to get homes insulated against the winter cold – keeping heat in, reducing fuel consumption and slashing fuel bills.

The company’s growing reputation earned it an invitation to Westminster to the Department for Energy and Climate Change, to join a workshop aimed at driving through energy efficiency.

General manager Sean Stevenson represented Westville in London as leaders from companies and organisations concerned about environmental impact discussed the Kyoto Summit targets and how they can be met.

Sean said: “We are experts in buildings insulation – whatever form that takes. As well as the more widely known cavity wall insulation we now specialise in insulating solid walls and this means virtually all buildings can be insulated, whatever their age.

“The workshop was keen to hear about how solid wall insulation works, and about how cutting the fuel consumption of individual buildings can reduce harmful emissions. There are millions of buildings without cavities in the walls. New methods mean those buildings can now be insulated.

“The Government is setting targets for all homes to be insulated and we support that. We also spoke about encouraging behavioural change, getting everyone thinking about the vital need to conserve energy.”

Westville was asked to represent the National Insulation Association at the meeting in Westminster. The company is a member of the Solid Wall Action Group, which is part of the NIA.

The assembled experts heard how more than 40% of a home’s energy will escape through uninsulated lofts and walls.
Sean said: “Home insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills – typically cutting around £365 per year by simply insulating your loft and cavity walls. Insulating your home now will not only improve its energy efficiency, but will make for a warmer winter and a healthier wallet.

“For those with solid walls the savings are even greater. Ensuring that homes are adequately insulated not only saves money but also provides greater comfort in the winter. Generally, the cost of installing cavity wall and loft insulation pays for itself within just two years. Insulating your home is a straight forward and simple process providing dramatic results.”
